Retail Manager

Salary: £35,940 per year

We are excited to be working for the “The York Ghost Merchants” who require a Retail Manager to oversee the smooth running of their extraordinary shop on the Shambles. In this role as Retail Manager you will be:

• Comfortable adopting the persona of a ‘Ghost Merchant’ to deliver a unique shopping experience for the public
• Supervising fellow ‘Merchants’ in the shop to ensure that customers receive the best service possible and that queues are managed safely and in a timely manner
• Innovative in developing working practices that will support staff in a demanding environment
• Undertaking and organising Merchant training to ensure customers continue to receive the high standard of service they have come to expect
• Responsible for staff management, scheduling and organisation of fellow shop Merchants
• Manage and support the Deputy Retail Manager and senior staff and delegate responsibilities as appropriate
• Efficient management of shop resources to meet demand
• Liaising with senior staff across all Ghost Merchant departments as required
• Responding to customer correspondence and enquiries
• Balancing of cash and banking responsibilities
• Promoting a joyful, safe and imaginative working culture

To be successful in this role of Shop Retail Manager you will:

• Have excellent people management skills with a mature and credible management style
• Have exceptional customer service skills gained in a public facing role – sector background is not important
• Fantastic organisational and logistics skills
• Be imaginative and creative in approach
• Enjoy the demands of working with the public in a fast-paced environment

• 37.5 hour contract with weekend working – the shop is currently open 10am – 5.30pm on Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri, Sat and Sunday 10am – 4pm. 7 day opening is planned.
