Senior Android Engineer Job Details:

Our client are one the leading retail banks in the UK and are committed to becoming the best bank for customers. As a result, they are looking for experienced and passionate Senior Android Engineers to join their team.

In this role, you’ll contribute to the technical leadership team’s work of driving the technology and future of the platform. Working with the Strategy and UX/UI Design teams as well as customer organisations to architect, design, and implement solutions.

You’ll also be crafting, developing, and producing mobile components and services; resolve, apply, and improve appropriate methodologies and toolsets for customers.

Our client aims to transform their digital capability, providing customers with simpler, continuous interactions across online, mobile and branches. Their digital platforms (public website, mobile & tablet app, and internet banking website) are where the majority of customer and colleague interactions with the bank take place. They are becoming increasingly sophisticated with the introduction of public API’s, growing numbers of devices to access them from and evolving operating systems.

The team

As a Senior Android Engineer, you will be working as part of the Retail Transformation directorate delivering new features for customers across our client’s brands in the mobile space. The Retail Lab mobile teams are fully agile and strive for excellence. As a part of the team, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in internal Hackathons, coding challenges and bi-weekly platform meetings where the community shares knowledge.

The minimum background experience and skills required for Android Engineers to apply:

• You have a solid understanding of designing a mobile experience for variable screen sizes in variable versions of Android and strong knowledge of Android SDK
• Strong knowledge of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices and experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning
• Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks and a knack for benchmarking and optimisation
• Understanding of Google’s Android design principles and interface guidelines and proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git

Additionally, they’d be looking for Android Engineers with hands-on experience of continuous delivery across areas such as code reviewing; mentoring/educating junior (or less experienced) developers; understanding of basic App architectures (i.e., MVP); strong Java & Kotlin knowledge; confident knowledge about best practices libraries (Dagger2, RxJava, RxAndroid, Retrofit, Butterknife).

It would also be great if you have the following experience but not essential:

• Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications
• Understanding of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and responsive web design as well as knowledge of RESTful APIs and web services
• Familiarity with MVVM architecture, Android Architecture Components

The role is based at out central London hub location. there is opportunity to work 1-2 days per week from home and work from the office 3 days per week. Our client is happy to offer flexible work schedules, for example start and finish times, or compressed hours!
