Our client is recognized as one of the UK’s market leaders in the area of automated materials handling solutions, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing program of strategic growth, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Senior Systems Architect to assume responsibility for all aspects of system design, task planning, development, functional testing, software quality and integration support across the company solutions portfolio, applying software product knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to systems projects in order to provide a working integrated solution in line with client expectations, budgets and overall project plans.

Reporting to the Systems Manager, the successful candidate will be tasked with assessing overall design and development times for a project and reporting this and any variance with the budget to the Project Manager, formulating and documenting the overall design for software projects including the creation of detailed Functional Design Specifications whilst controlling the integrity of the design and then planning and assigning tasks for the team of development engineers. You will assist engineers with the development of technical solutions to achieve the required design and where appropriate, work on smaller projects to develop source code in high level languages, primarily C, C++ & Java – so previously extensive experience on these platforms is essential for the position.

You will identify any changes in scope and estimate the time associated with the changes before reporting back to the Systems project manager, and will provide functionally tested software to the Beta test team as well as early life support for software once installed on a live site, managing the rectification of any project related software faults as appropriate and maintaining productive technical relationships with all levels of suppliers and customers (Internal and external customers) throughout the project process.

With the confidence and experience to confirm that the FDS creates a coherent set of system processes that can be delivered by a development team, you will have the authority to make system design decisions for the project in agreement with the Systems Project manager in order to ensure target dates and budgets are achieved and exceeded, so previous experience in the delivery of high value projects is essential for the position.
