An Equal Opportunity’ South London based electrical and mechanical contractor seeks to appoint an experienced Electrical Estimator/Bid Manager for key role to aid their continued expansion. The M&E contractor (current sales circa £1m) is part of a group of Director Owned Companies in specialist contracting with total sales of £30m. You will be based at the Head office in Mitcham, and should be looking for a challenging role working closely with the Directors/General Manager to maximise potential growth opportunities. The role will require you to estimate the electrical element of tenders to establish a consistent flow of work. In time this will hopefully lead to the recruitment of an understudy estimator to enable you to become more involved in the management of the entire bidding process, so that the company can achieve sustainable growth and development.
You will be required to work across a broad range of sectors including healthcare, commercial, retail, education, leisure, residential and defence. In addition you will be experience in working directly with clients on a regular basis and be able to maintain and develop meaningful work relationships with the companies stakeholders.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABLITY
·Prepare electrical service cost estimates and proposals used to secure new electrical business
·Establish new quotation by understanding job specifications and drawings.
·Accurately calculate quantity take-offs from drawings
·Accurately produce material and labour take-offs
·Attend site/tender walkthroughs to cross reference drawings to identify proactive solutions and avoid potential site interferences where required.
·Understanding of the planning and sequencing of construction of projects
·Communicate with client to clarify unclear specifications, wording, through RFI’s
·Coordinate with sub-contractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing used for bid submission.
·Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, tender hand-off, project closing meetings as needed.
QUALIFICATION
·A strong background in a similar role, (preferably 3 years minimum)
·Educated to HND/HNC level or preferably degree level.
·Have strong client facing and communication skills in order to gain confidence and assist in decision making.
·Be able to manage your own workload and work well under pressure.
·Proficient in MS Office, word and excel, and other related computer programs
·Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical specifications
·Strong communication skills both written and oral
