Job Description:
A leading IT Consultancy are looking to recruit a number of Open Source Developers to build out their open source practice.practice.
This is an opportunity to develop your career at a genuine world leading consultancy, working on challenging real world problems. You will be expected to become a highly visible and connected member of the Open Source community.
New software will be created as required to meet customer requirements, particularly around controlling platform interfaces.

Responsibilities
* Full participation in agile processes
* Team estimation
* Evaluating User Stories
* Delivering software improvements against User Stories
* End to end responsibility for personal contribution
* Implementing automated testing
* Feature demonstrations
* Integration into release process
* Maintaining awareness of emerging and changing Big Data / Hadoop ecosystem
* Maintaining or increasing quality of overall delivery, through robust approach to version control, change tracking and automated testing
* Take ownership of delivery of allocated User Stories, which may extend beyond personal skill set requiring personal coordination and self organising within team
Mandatory requirements:
* Familiarity (>=1 year) working with Open Source community-backed components (interacting with online forums, communities, bug trackers)
* Experience with version control (git, Subversion) and best practices around task tracking and ticketing systems (JIRA, Trac, Bugzilla)
* Basic Linux system administration (package management, editing files, locating logs, inspecting running processes)
* Familiar with Java ecosystem (JVM, Jars, editing existing code, compiling)
Desirable:
* Familiarity working with Open Source commercially-backed components
* Linux system administration (installation, creating filesystems)
* Awareness of Linux ecosystem and major vendors
* Awareness of Hadoop ecosystem and major vendors and components

* Experience working with distributed or clustered computing platforms
* Cassandra

* Knowledgeable about networking (IPv4, TCP, basic routing, basic packet capture)
* Knowledgeable about Service Oriented Architecture
* Evidence of working with programming languages that are not part of personal skills set (e.g., Java developer showing examples of debugging JavaScript)
* Experience of Virtualisation (VirtualBox, VMware, KVM, OpenStack), Cloud (IaaS, PaaS, AWS, Azure) and Container platforms (Docker)
* Experience working with Agile software development
* Experience of automation (test automation, server automation, installation automation)
