Our client is one of the UK’s leading providers of waste management services. Their primary operations include 12 operational landfill sites, 2 composting facilities and 3 waste transfer stations across which they manage in excess of 2.3 million tonnes of waste per annum. The company is also a significant generator of renewable energy and provides services for the management and aftercare of landfill sites.
A vacancy currently exists for an Environmental Technician to play a key role in supporting the delivery of the company’s Environmental Monitoring Programme covering a number of operational landfill sites in the Essex area.
Main duties:
- Work with the Environmental Data Manager to ensure that all on site monitoring is completed in line with the company’s Environmental Monitoring Programme.
- Monitor activity at the company’s landfill sites to ensure that they remain compliant with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
- Produce timely reports that highlight and make suggestions for resolving issues and /or concerns.
- Ensure that the Company maintains stocks of the equipment needed to carry out testing, gather samples as required, and send these to independent laboratories for analysis (this includes gathering water and leachate samples).
- Ensure that monitoring equipment (including the vehicles used to gather samples etc.) is maintained and serviced as required.
- Work with Site Managers to ensure that monitoring points remain accessible.
- Carry out surface emissions surveys and assist site staff with the leachate management as needed.
- Liaise and communicate with the Environment Agency as required and provide feedback to colleagues as needed.
- Liaise with analytical service providers in ways that ensures compliance with the Environmental Monitoring Programme.
Candidate requirements:
- Possess at least 2 years’ experience of working in a similar role/environment.
- Possess a proven ability to build and maintain effective and productive working relationships with colleagues and third-party service providers.
- Be willing to travel as part of your day-to-day role.
- Be IT literate and be able to demonstrate this on a day-to-day basis.
- Have a full UK driving licence.
- Be flexible in your approach to work and possess the ability to work well alone or as part of team.
