Digital Forensics is a fast-moving and exciting area of business. The Police Service of Scotland Cybercrime Unit has a reputation for innovation and excellence and you will be involved in the most challenging and interesting cases of digital forensic work including the investigation of serious crime, homicide, child sexual exploitation and complex fraud.
With digital devices present in almost every investigation Police Scotland undertakes; and ranging from business computer networks with high capacity servers/workstations to domestic usage involving computers, laptops, mobile devices and gaming consoles the role may involve attending scenes and forensically examining digital media to identify evidence.
Therefore the successful candidate will be required to personally mentor the development of Forensic Computer Analysts, and Police Officers. In addition, and through robust digital forensic investigation, to act as lead technical practitioner and direct technical aspects of digital investigations and to implement, maintain and improve the Case Management System.
The nature of work will involve having to access highly sensitive material. Because of this, successful applicants will require to undergo biannual welfare appointments.
The post holder will be required to be self disciplined, motivated and have proven investigative skills. In addition you will be able to demonstrate technical knowledge of various computer systems, to research, prepare and deliver internal and external training to police officers, police staff and other stakeholders and to be able to review current processes and procedures to identify more efficient and effective methods and report on solutions to senior management.
