Our client is one of the up and coming computer system maintenance companies in the Wiltshire area, that are looking to expand their fast growing business by adding a Senior Network Engineer to their team. They are looking for an individual who has experience in this field of work and is happy to hit the ground running and work well with a team.

Essential skills/knowledge:

3 Years experience of routing and switching in an ISP or Enterprise network environment is required for this role.
Working knowledge of VLANs, VRRP, Spanning Tree, ACLs and resolving Layer 1-3 issues is essential.
Any demonstrable experience of Network Design (even of a simple VLAN-based network) is favourable, especially if presented at interview.
Candidates must have experience of Command-Line configuration of Layer 3 Cisco-like equipment (e.g. Brocade, Juniper, Huawei, Alcatel).
Firewalls – Sophos.
.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a valid CCNA or be able to demonstrate a minimum of 2 years of equivalent experience of working for a Network Services Provider.
Candidates who have passed any of the CCNP Router & Switches exams will have an advantage, especially if they have passed CCNP Router.
Overview:

The ideal candidate will have a natural attention to detail and either have or acquire on the job an understanding of the “bigger picture” of the Networking Industry and how our client as a tier 2/3 ISP interact with other networks and our various types of customer.

This involves more than just understanding the technical aspects of our clients internal network, which is the overriding concern of most enterprises, but also extends to understanding common problems that occur as a result of miscommunication, wrong assumptions, red herrings etc.

The candidate is expected to be able to determine the facts from all sources of information and be an excellent communicator with customers, colleagues and suppliers alike, appreciating the importance of expectations but being primarily concerned with the facts.

The main body of work revolves around the PPDIOO lifecycle of the core network and projects range from link capacity and switch upgrades (with traffic engineering used to minimise impact) to holistic security policy development, testing, deployment and validation.

The candidate will work closely with the Lead Network Engineer and discuss the best way to accomplish each task or project that is assigned solely to the candidate before focusing on their work. A friendly, collaborative atmosphere is essential for sharing knowledge and developing as a team.
