Transport Planner
MAIN PURPOSE
The Transport Department within my client exists to provide optimal inland solutions to support our customers needs in a consistent, cost effective manner. This vacancy exists within the planning team of that department, ensuring our containers are routed in the most efficient way utilising our rail & road partners.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Dispatch all UK transport for Road/Rail and Feeder moves
• Ensure maximum efficiency is gained from all transports
• Establish optimum routings by cost effectiveness
• Maintain and build strong relationships with both internal departments and vendors
• Ensure all vehicle/rail allocations are met
• Undertake training as required to be capable to cover for colleagues during periods of absence
• Ensure all vehicle/rail allocations are met
• Focal point for both external and internal customer contact with regards to transport issues
• Key Transport Accounts
• Costing all Rail legs and tip/reload jobs
• Maintain out of hours contact on a rota basis
• On late shift must provide status call-over list for the early shift
• Ensure all additional costs are captured and reported to relevant departments
• Provide feedback to the organisation with regards to transport performance
• Co-ordinate with Transport team to ensure any service issues are resolved with corrective action taken
• Liaise with import and export customer service groups
• Cover for Team Leader during absence with set tasks making as directed by Assistant Manager Transport Execution
KEY COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Transport industry experience essential
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to work both indiviudally and as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Professional telephone manner
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Good attention to detail
PRACTICAL & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
• Proficient in the use of MS Office applications
• Knowledge of Destin8 and CNS port community systems preferable
• Good geographical and spatial awareness of the UK is important in this role, as you will be calculating which route and mode of transportation to apply to the jobs you plan and execute
QUALIFICATIONS
* Minimum GCSE/equivalent Grade C or above in English & Maths
