General Foreperson – Civil Engineering

Salary: £48,000 – £54,000 per year
Our client is one of top civil engineering contractors in the country and have recently been awarded a number of high profile projects and frameworks.
They require a General Foreperson to work predominantly initially in the Newcastle area but travel further afield (within UK) will possibly be required. The nature of the projects would be within water, flood defence, marine and heavy earthworks associated within those fields.
Your Key Activities include:
• Project professional image of self and the company.
• Set personal example and promote best practice in safety, quality and environment.
• Manage sub-contractors and the workforce.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures.
• Communicate with rest of site team including engineers, quantity surveyors, safety officers and
clerk of works to ensure full understanding of information.
• Build and develop the team to deliver all aspects of the project requirements
• Develop and assist with site set up.
• Provide, monitor and control labour, plant and materials to meet the programme.
• Ensure daily diaries and allocation sheets are up to date.
• Ensure safe systems of work over all activities.
• Ensure all records, e.g. plant, delivery tickets, temporary works and permits are up to date and
in place.
• Assist line manager / engineers with programming and production of method statements.
• Contribute to weekly meetings and QF regarding safety, progress, resourcing, costs and
programme.
• Ensure all statutory weekly or daily inspections are carried out, e.g. weekly safety and
environment tours.
• Assist and promote the development of the workforce e.g. identify training requirements,
review the performance of the workforce and ensure delivery of tool box talks.
• Ensure high standard of quality on the works to at least meet the specification requirements.
• Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.
Required Experience
Your Qualifications and Experience should be:
• Successful experience as a foreman.
• In-depth knowledge of company policy and procedures, safety legislation and environment
issues.
• Able to read drawings and construct to them, work to a programme and keep written and
electronic records.
• Demonstrate experience in all major civil engineering activities and temporary works.
• Able to develop and promote safe systems of work.
• Good people management skills and experience in team building.
• Excellent communication skills.
