An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Systems Engineer/Operational Analyst to join an engineering and software company based in Bristol.

Purpose of this role:

– Provide systems engineering expertise to support current and future tasks primarily within the land systems defence domain

– Provide an operational analysis capability to support a range of analytical tasks such as war gaming, mathematical modelling and statistical analysis

– Focused on system concept development and evaluation within the land systems domain

– Work individually and within a multi-disciplined team environment that will include customers and other partners

– Meet programme objectives and satisfy customer requirements in a timely and appropriate manner

The successful candidate will:

– Carry out systems engineering activities on projects, with an emphasis on conceptual analysis, user and system requirements definition, systems integration, verification and validation of land domain equipment solutions.

– Carry out operational analysis activities on projects, with a major emphasis on benefits analysis, directly for customers and in support of in-house projects and bids.

– Achieve and exercise competency in the use of operational analysis techniques and software tools appropriate to projects.

– Carry out these activities in line with the Company Management System and customer processes.

– Exercise competency in the use of systems engineering tools and methodologies appropriate to projects.

– Establish good working relationships, working and liaising with SEA staff, project partners, the customer community and external contractors.

– Work to identify and develop opportunities, and harness skills, in systems engineering within the team, division and across the Company.

– Support bid managers and produce bid documentation to budget and timescale and in accordance with the Company Management System

– Demonstrate personal and professional responsibility and integrity in the exercise of engineering skills to meet customer and business unit requirements.

– Provide systems engineering advice in support of the current and future land systems programmes

– Achieve and exercise competency in the use of operational analysis techniques and software tools appropriate to projects.

– Be prepared to provide systems engineering expertise to other land related research tasks and maritime programme tasks

– Work collaboratively within a diverse team including staff, contractors and customers;

– Deliver System Engineering products including, but not limited to, models (such as, but not restricted to, the UK MoD Acquisition Framework (MODAF)), systems engineering management plans, user and system requirements documents, verification and validation documents; and

– Produce and contribute to high quality technical reports and related documentation.

Operational objectives:

– Complete directed work to the satisfaction of customers and SEA business units.

– Conduct tasks and provide deliverables in line with agreed schedules and budgets.

– Comply with the Company Management System and as formally agreed with customers.

– Present work and management outputs in the directed Company format or as formally agreed with customers.

– Comply with the provisions of Health and Safety legislation to assist in the maintenance of a safe workplace.

– Contribute to professional exchanges and develop corporate expertise in systems engineering.

– ‘Value-add’ and contribute to RTS tasks and outcomes.

An ideal Systems Engineer/Operational Analyst will hold the following skills and experiences:

– Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a systems engineering role

– Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (engineering, maths or physics)

– Evidence of continued professional development

– Have, or be seeking, member status or further accreditation with an appropriate professional institution (IET, IOP or IMA) or

– Be a chartered engineer or working towards this status

– Experience of working on a collaborative environment and multi-tasking work and commitments between separate project tasks

– Broad understanding of the military environment

– Ability to receive HM Government Security Clearance (SC)

– Experience of working in tasks that are related to a defence domain

– Experience of working in a customer facing role
