Full job description

Blue Sky Enabling

Salary: £26,000 per year

We are working on behalf of Blue Sky Enabling to fill this vacancy based in Winsley, near Bath. The position would ideally suit someone living locally as there is plenty of time off during the day when on shift. The position is a permanent employed position working as part of a team to support a client on alive in basis.

Blue Sky Enabling specialise in flexible person-centred services that enable people with complex needs to live lives of their own choosing as included members of the community.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Live In Female Enabler / Support Worker / Carer to join Blue Sky Enabling to provide enabling support to 2 clients who live near to each other in Winsley, near Bath:

E is a lovely lady with dementia resulting in some confusion. She can become anxious and upset with herself around her incontinence and when she has an accident she can become quite distressed and critical of herself. She doesn’t need or want someone with her all the time, and currently has live in carers doing shifts from 5:30pm until 8:30am the following morning. She needs someone to join her team to work 3 shifts from Friday eve/Saturday, Saturday/Sunday and Sunday/Monday morn.

Alongside E you will work with P.

P is a gentleman in his 80s. He is an amputee who likes to be as independent as possible. P needs assistance for 2 hours in the morning from 8:30am-10:30am, and from 3pm-5pm to enable him to manage his personal care and hoisting (for which there will be 2 carers on shift), meal preparations and accompanying him when he goes out in his wheelchair to walk his dog.

We work in an enabling way using positive reinforcement to minimise capacity. We are looking for people with the right attitude, understanding the principles of enabling and bring a mix of skills and experience to contribute to E and P’s respective staff teams.

At Blue Sky Enabling we offer a complete training program for every member of staff that we employ, ensuring each member of staff attains their Care Certificate. We also make a range of training pathways available for individuals who prove themselves to be excellent Enablers and an asset to the organisation. We are looking for people with exceptional people skills, who are prepared to push themselves to build on their existing knowledge. Our online training programs are accessible from home, while practical training and assessment will be conducted on site. In both respects support for training is made available when it is needed, to ensure that all of the Enablers complete their training to a very high standard.

Blue Sky Enabling staff work in a way that grows and nurtures a lasting relationship between each Enabler and the Service Users that they work with. We are looking for employees who are prepared to make that kind of commitment to a person. To begin a journey in care work with Blue Sky Enabling is to accept the extraordinary parts of your personality, and work in a way that surpasses every expectation that a Service User may have about what a Care worker should be like.

Our Expectation is that you will:

* Bring a diverse range of relevant skills, knowledge and experience of working with people with complex needs. Would ideally suit an undergraduate with a focus on psychology, occupational therapy or similar.
* Be responsible, honest and trustworthy.
* Have a good sense of humour, friendly manner, sensitive approach and the ability to empathise.
* Good listening, communication and time management skills.
* Be able to engage effectively with people who have different communication abilities.
* Have good written, verbal and IT skills.
* Have a commitment to and understanding of Enablement.
* Due to the nature of the role you MUST hold a full UK driving licence

Blue Sky Enabling provides staff with a supported working environment that includes enhanced DBS, funded comprehensive on-line and practical training and assessment to recognised qualifications, 1:2:1 monthly professional supervision and appraisal, holiday pay and statutory sick pay.

In return you will receive initial wages of £26,000 per year.
