Graduate Qs

We are currently assisting a North Yorkshire based Civil Engineering and Quantity Surveying Consultancy in their search for a Graduate QS.

This is a superb opportunity for a career minded graduate to learn the entire role of a QS from take-offs through to adjudication. As this is currently a small office you will be working alongside the Lead QS and assisting with all duties. This is a very hands on role and you will receive direct training at every step of the way.

The majority of works are in the Highways discipline and under the NEC form of contract. Due to this the company is asked to prepare a large number of Bills of Quantities which you will be involved with using various forms of measurement (HMM, CESMM, SMM7). You will also be asked to price daywork sheets and perform monthly valuations on live jobs as well as tasks such as certifying payments of subcontract accounts.

Other works carried out by this consultancy include providing cost estimates, re-measurement and cost control, preparation of bespoke contracts, project programming, structural and civil engineering. Their speciality however is in contractual claims, adjudication and arbitration.

To be considered for the role you should have gained a degree in Quantity Surveying, a keen interest in civil engineering, a full UK driving licence, a proactive nature, and the ability (and willingness) to work and develop in a small team.

Unlike a position with a larger company, you will be gaining experience of the entire project lifecycle; this is a great chance to get a lot of experience – quickly.
