Prison Custody Officer

The world`s leading private security organisation is seeking a Prison Custody Officer based in Inverness to join its expanding team. The core business in Scotland is court custody and prison escorting services. It operates in escorting prisoners / custodies from various locations (e.g. prison, police stations) to court or other external locations (e.g. hospital visits). The company also have the responsibility to ensure that custodies whilst in the company`s care have a safe and secure environment.

No two days are the same for a PCO. You will come into contact with people from all walks of life on a daily basis as well as liaising with colleagues at the court along with a wide variety of other people including, police officers, solicitors and members of the public.

As the Prison Custody Officer your duties will include:

• Maintaining security and order in a custodial environment;
• Receiving and discharging individuals and their property into and out of the custodial environment;
• Minimising and dealing with aggressive or abusive behaviour to reduce risks of safety and security;
• Preparing documentation and ensuring that all paperwork is accurate and current;
• Ensuring own and when appropriate, other`s actions reduce risks to security and maintain a safe and secure environment;
• Searching individuals, premises and surrounding areas and confiscate prohibited items and / or contraband in order to main safety and security;
• Assisting in the control of incidents and emergencies to reduce the impact of the incident when required.

To be a successful Prison Custody Officer you will have the following skills and experience:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively to vulnerable and difficult people;
• Flexibility to work across sites and locations;
• An eye for detail to ensure documentation and information is accurate;
• Provide effective customer service;
• Driving licence is essential;
• C1, D1 OR PCV driving licence is desirable;
• Certificate of Professional Competences (CPC) is desirable.

Opportunities will be available to obtain C1, D1 and PCV licences along with CPC training to develop within the role of PCO.

You will be working 35 hours per week.

In return you will receive a Salary: £26,000per year. Overtime will be available.
