Regional Technical Design Manager – Building Services

Salary: £66,000 – £90,000 per year

Parkinson Gray Associates have been engaged to act as Recruiting Agent to assist our Client with their procurement of a Regional Technical Design Manager. PGA Ltd is the leading building services recruitment agency in the North of England. We work with MEP contractor and consultancies across middle to senior management roles. This Client is a “Tier One”, major national contractor who works on some of the UK’s most high profile construction projects. With offices up and down the country, this role is to work within their North West division.

Our Client is looking for someone to head up their building services design function in the North West. Whilst they do have an in house design function, in this region most of their design work is outsourced to external MEP design consultancies. Although this is certainly a hands-on role, the largest part of this role will be to effectively coordinate your design consultancy providers to ensure their work meets the high expectations of your Clients.

With a focus on modern methods of construction, standardisation and prefabrication, your role will be focused on both pre constriction as well as the follow on once the project is on-site. Technical vetting, scope of work checklists, value engineering as well as the vital interface with the estimation team, will all be key aspects of the role.

This is a senior role and we are looking for a serious building services professional to fill it. We anticipate that the successful candidate will have a background as a Design Engineer, perhaps gained either within a large MEP contractor or with one of the well-known design consultancies within the building services sector. Of course, you will be biased towards either mechanical or electrical services in your original role of Design Engineer. That said, we are looking for someone with extensive experience in building services. Whilst my client does not expect you to be equally proficient in both mechanical and electrical services we do require a good working knowledge of both disciplines. Perhaps most importantly, we require a Candidate with an excellent commercial understanding of the business of building services contacting. Always with a keen eye on the financials, you will be focused on excellence in project delivery and an understanding of how the best form of business development is to deliver outstanding levels of service to your Clients, thereby securing repeat business and enhancing the reputation of the business.

As I say, this is a senior role and has a senior salary attached. In addition, you will be joining the business at a time of significant expansion, hence the potential for significant progression for someone who can show their potential.
