Our client is currently looking for an experienced engineering professional with a background in the oil and gas/chemical sector to undertake a role as a Specialist Risk Assessor
Job responsibilities
Using your specialist knowledge, you will:
Support company programmes through the development and delivery of methods and standards for the quantified assessment of risks from dangerous substances (including flammables, toxic etc);
Provide advice on the risks arising from onshore major hazard installations and pipelines to a range of stakeholders, including industry, local planning authorities and government departments;
Provide expert advice on the prediction of major hazard risks in assessing Safety Reports and verifying compliance with the Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations and the Health and Safety at Work Act;
Represent the organisation at land use planning appeals and enquiries and at technical gatherings of fellow professionals and other stakeholders;
Make technical and strategic contributions to the organisation’s interests in major hazard risk assessment.
Attributes required
We are looking for high calibre specialists who can, under challenge, think strategically, identify underlying core issues, and engage at different levels both with colleagues, site technical staff and at the most senior levels within an organisation. You will be decisive and able to influence those organisations to bring about improvements. You will have:
Strong communication skills to influence change at all levels in the organisations we regulate;
Sound analytical skills to identify underlying gaps and deficiencies related to risk management;
Initiative, and decisiveness, making sound decisions based on available evidence;
Good organisational and planning skills to manage your workload;
The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
The ability to write effective technical reports and to present complex technical information in a clear and concise way for a non-technical audience.
Essential criteria:
A degree or an equivalent qualification in a science, engineering, mathematical or related subject area;
Corporate membership of a relevant professional institution or the qualifications and experience to apply for membership and registration;
A good working knowledge of the application of your discipline skill to the onshore major hazards industry;
Knowledge and experience of the application of major accident hazard modelling, preferably for onshore installations;
Knowledge and experience of the development of methodologies for the assessment of major hazard risks;
You will also need a full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK unless reasonable adjustments can be made under the Equality Act 2010.
Desirable requirements:
Some knowledge and experience of relevant research or joint industry projects;
Some knowledge of the onshore safety report regime;
An interest in developing small, bespoke computer-based models would be beneficial.
