Night Shift Supervisor

1. Job Purpose
To manage a team of maintenance personnel, operating on a Nightshift basis, Monday to Thursday. Effectively distribute resource to meet all servicing and remedial work requirements whilst maintaining the highest levels of H&S control. Proactively liaise with all necessary site teams, on a daily basis, to ensure site and customer service objectives are met.

2. Key Accountabilities
• Work in conjunction with all Facilities teams and operational managers to deliver and develop equipment availability to deliver the site’s customer service objectives and the business strategy
• Deliver effective resource planning through daily review of workload and assigning it as appropriate to internal resource. Measure and report on its effectiveness through the management of departmental KPI’s.
• Liaise with the Day-shift Management team to Forecast and implement resource models that maximise the use of ‘Non-operational hours’.
• Ensuring all Health & Safety Documentation is up to date, relevant and implemented. This shall include the review of Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and workplace procedures.
• Audit and report on workplace activity. This shall include assessing the effectiveness of both H&S documentation and equipment servicing regimes, capture and feedback this data through relevant KPI’s to both team members and Facilities/site Management.
• Issue a ‘Permit to Work’ for high risk activity undertaken by either internal or external resource.
• Occasional management of contractors on site. Coordinate stakeholders to ensure all criteria are met for them to attend site (RAMS, training documentation etc), oversee their work to ensure it complies with company standards of H&S and quality of workmanship.
• Support Strategic Facilities project work in implementing improvement projects.
• Build appropriate relationships and manage stakeholders to ensure integration of maintenance work into site activity.
• Give feedback and challenge the team to take ownership and drive a culture whereby their team feel able to give their best but where their views, opinions and talents are respected.
• Carry out all Time and Attendance reviews including disciplinary action.
• Carry out effective 1-2-1’s to ensure every team member is assessed both in terms of Technical competencies and personal effectiveness.
• Manage the training requirements for their team to ensure technical knowledge is maintained and developed.
• Ensure that normal workshop tasks that sit outside of the PPM system are performed. E.g. Spares control, housekeeping etc.
• Manage own development proactively and demonstrate role model behaviour.

3. Organisation Chart & People Responsibility
This role is one position reporting directly to the Corby Maintenance Manager and is directly responsible for a team of 2 Technical staff. Out of hours they will be the Senior Facilities Departmenatal Manager on site and, as such, will have responsibility for making operational decisions on the use of the automated equipment.

4. Scope of the Role
The scope of the role is for Corby Distribution Centre however the Shift Supervisors remit will have responsibility to identify technical developments or process improvements that can be transplanted into other operational sites.

6. Financial & Legal Responsibilities
• Approval of Overtime Payments.
• Although there is no direct budget responsibility the role holder must keep within defined boundaries of expenditure.
• The incumbent must be aware of and work within the follow Regulations, failure to do so could result in prosecution – PUWER, LOLER, L8, COSHH, Asbestos Regs, Working at Height Regs, Electricity at Work Regs. This list is not exhaustive.

7. Environment
• Warehouse Environment
• Night shift 37.5hrs/wk
• Flexibility to work out of hours (weekends) may be required to supervise contractors and oversee servicing works.
• Flexibility to work different hours to normal nightshift. This may be required to cover shift managers on Double days, training, attending meetings etc.
• Workwear and tools will be provided as appropriate

8. Person Specification
Essential:
• A recognised maintenance trades qualification.
• A multi skilled background in Maintenance Supervision.
• Experience of PLC controlled materials handling equipment or process control/production equipment.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings including PLC, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical drawings.
• An understanding of legal compliance in a maintenance environment.
• Experience of supervising contractors on site.
• IOSH Managing Safely
• Good interpersonal/communication skills
Desirable:
• Previous supervisory/management experience within a similar environment.
• NEBOSH General Certificate (or working towards)
• Knowledge of procurement processes and purchasing authorities. Experience/knowledge of HV distribution and switching.
• A recognised Continuous Improvement qualification
