Luxfer MEL Technologies is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of Magnesium and Zirconium based products and services to technology industries worldwide.
We are a forward-thinking business with approximately 300 employees across the UK & US, and you’ll be joining our site based in Swinton, Greater Manchester.
Zirconium chemicals are produced at the Swinton site from a range of raw materials to service a number of niche markets including automotive, refinery, biomass, coatings, pharmaceutical and military/defence. Our lightweight magnesium alloys are machined or extruded to custom shapes and specifications to meet our customer requirements, and are used in high performance, safety critical aerospace, defence, healthcare, oil and gas and Formula 1.
The Package
As a Buyer you will receive a salary of in the region of £36,000 – £42,000, with the level dependent on experience, and you will have the potential to earn an annual bonus. You will also benefit from:

The Role – Buyer
Reporting to the Head of Procurement, as a Buyer you will be primarily responsible for purchasing goods, materials and services, undertaking a proactive approach to procurement and driving improvement within our sourcing activities and processes.
Your duties will include, although not be limited to:
* Reviewing existing categories of spend, identifying and prioritising product group areas for tender and renegotiation
* Negotiating contracts, improving terms of business with suppliers and reviewing / reporting opportunities to deliver cost savings to the business
* Engaging with stakeholders to understand requirements and gain input for procurement activities
* Managing the supplier base, undertaking regular reviews using performance data
* Liaising with suppliers regarding purchasing processes and new projects / activities, acting as an interface between them and other departments
* Monitoring market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers and advising on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organisation
* Providing analysis on costs, new and existing, and reviewing cost reduction activities
Our Requirements – Buyer
* Proven experience as a Buyer, including maintaining supplier relationships
* Either currently studying towards or have achieved a Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualification, and/or a relevant business or commercial degree
* Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
* IT literate with knowledge of Microsoft Excel to an advanced level (e.g. Pivot tables)
* Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset
Although not essential, previous experience gained as a Buyer within a chemical industry or manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous.
