Molecular Pathologist (Histologist)

Jason Johal is currently recruiting for a Molecular Pathology Histologist to join a dedicated team of scientists providing an outsourced service to one of the top ten largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. This is a permanent, full time role based at the client’s research and development site in Surrey which is commutable from London, Oxford, Reading and Guildford.

You will be joining a busy neuropathology lab where you will be expected to work independently and as part of a larger team to perform a wide range of histological experiments on tissue samples from model systems and human patients. This work will have a direct impact on the research and development of novel therapies for patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Your main responsibilities in this role will be to:
• Process and section (microtomy) tissue samples for neuropathological analysis
• Design and perform routine histological, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence experiments
• Optimise and validate new histological assays
• Detail neuropathological assessment of tissue sections using manual and automated image analysis techniques
• Presenting results at regular lab and group meetings

You are required to have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
• Working knowledge of histology, immunohistochemistry, pathology and microscopy
• Sound understanding of experimental design and statistics for biology experimental work
• Awareness of lab safety requirements
• Hands-on experience and prior knowledge of neuroscience, pathology and/or microscopy would be advantageous
• A BSc in biological sciences (or equivalent)

The work requires a meticulous, systematic approach with excellent attention to detail and the ability to multi-task. Attention to detail is key, together with an enquiring mind and highly developed verbal and written communications skills.
