D.o. Technical Manager – Steelwork Fabrication

Salary: £42,000 – £60,000 per year

We are delighted to be recruiting for a Technical Manager to join a very successful and growing steelwork fabrication business. You will be playing a key role in supporting the Drawing Office Manager. Typical projects undertaken are varied and range from stairs and hand rails through to portal frame buildings and various steelwork structures.

Technical Manager duties include:

• Manage and coordinate technical aspects of multiple steelwork projects.
• Regular communications / meetings with internal Draughtsman and contract detailers to maintain a clear oversight of project progress and any issues throughout the detailing process.
• Raising RFIs/TQs with detailers and progress them to all relevant parties, i.e. Architects, Engineers etc.
• Liaise with all relevant internal departments, Contract’s and workshop etc. where necessary to inform them of any project status – delays or variations to contract and detail outstanding information status and potential project consequences.
• Assist detailers in validating information, model, and detailed drawing status – assist checking of drawings/models in conjunction with detailers / DO Manager as required.

Technical Manager requirements:

• Must have a solid background and hands on experience of detailing structural and architectural steelwork, preferably on Tekla or similar 3D detailing systems.
• It is an imperative to have a broad knowledge and experience of working within a Drawing Office in the steelwork industry and to fully understand the technical aspects of a steelwork detailer.
• Experience of the steelwork project life-cycle from estimating through to site erection is essential.
• This would ideally suit an experienced steelwork detailer, who wants to maintain a working involvement within the Drawing office, working with detailers, but is also looking towards a more management based role, using their experience to good effect to help manage the drawing office with the DO Manager.
• Excellent communication skills.
