Research Assistant

Temporary role, 150 hours to be completed in 4 month duration

Nature of the research: Analysis of the Impacts of the pandemic and hybrid learning on SBEA students and teaching.

Covid19 pandemic lockdowns necessitated swift enaction of online learning. Teachers and students were forced to adapt quickly and without standard guidelines and experience. A large amount of data pertaining to student engagement and progression is passively and actively collected by the numerous systems employed. This data will be analysed using various diagnostic and statistical tools to elucidate the efficacy of online and hybrid teaching and identify areas of improvement. This will be presented in an educational journal paper and as an open workshop to LSBU and external stakeholders such as HE institutions, ADVANCE HE, ICE, the Royal Society, British Council and RAENG. The results will help LSBU staff and HE staff to understand and improve on the hybrid teaching model and pedagogical methods for STEM teaching in the 21st century. This will directly benefit LSBU staff and students.

The Research Assistant will collate the data pertaining to the efficacy and outcomes of the hybrid teaching model employed in the School of Built environment and Architecture before, during and beyond the Covid19 lockdowns. The data will be collated from various sources including Moodle, Panopto and etcetera. The RA will perform an in-depth analysis of student engagement, learning outcomes and performance after which they will design and implement a survey to staff, current and previous students. This survey will further improve the depth and quality of the data and aid in a fuller picture of the efficacy of the hybrid approach. They will then use the data to help write a journal paper with the academics and help deliver the workshop.

The RA will have knowledge of LSBU online learning tools, statistical analysis, research development and good personal organisation and teamwork skills
