Salary: £36,000 – £72,000 per year
Principal Accountabilities
Propose, design and conduct experiments to provide new anode material
options. ‘Handson’ laboratory-related activities will make up the vast majority
of the role.
* Exploit the breadth and depth of silicon and related chemistries to develop
improved materials and intellectual property for application in Li-ion batteries.
Remain current on new technological developments and monitoring of
literature for relevant research papers and novel technologies;
* Understand and exploit a range of analytical and electrochemical
characterisation techniques, together with statistical methods, to accelerate
optimisation of both new and incumbent anode materials;
* Apply scientific excellence. Maintain comprehensive and accurate records;
* Collaborate to establish and execute project goals to meet business
objectives. Promote creativity and the effectiveness of peers through targeted
information sharing;
* Offer input on technical and IP strategies and plans. Support the filing,
exemplification and examination of new intellectual property. Produce project
progress reports as required.
Requirements
Qualifications
* PhD or MSc with significant proven skills in synthetic methods and novel
materials development. Experience in a diverse range of organic and
inorganic methods, silicon chemistry and nanoparticles would be particularly
desirable
* An understanding of electrochemistry and experience of working within the
lithium-ion battery community would be advantageous Technical Skills
* Strong practical track record of new ideas, innovation and scientific problem
solving
* Adept at rapidly converting ideas into focused experiments with a high level
of scientific discipline, rigour and urgency
* Experience and investigation of process-structure-property relationships
* An understanding of material science and electrochemistry
* Competent and confident with statistical methods and structured
experimentation
* Strong planning and communication skills
* A sound approach to health, safety and environmental aspects in the
laboratory Experience
* A passion for laboratory work and new product development
* Competence with a variety of materials synthesis and characterisation
methods
* A proactive, self-directed, ‘hands-on’ approach
* Experience working on collaborative projects in a fast acting, results driven
environment
* Demonstrable experience of having worked in a project team, as well as an
individual, in an industrial research and development environment in high
tech industry would be favoured
