Retail Assistant

Salary: £26,000 per year

Vinotopia is a contemporary wine merchant based in Nailsworth that supplies to trade, events, weddings, online and the general public. We work hard to develop relationships with smaller, high-quality producers and bring our customers a range of wines that can’t be found on the high street but are accessible at every price point.

Where possible, all of our products are organic, sustainably sourced and carbon friendly. Local isn’t always possible in our industry, but we strive to offer a great selection of the highest quality wines, spirits and beers from as close to home as possible.

We are a growing business and currently building a beautiful new ‘wine barn’ in Nailsworth to showcase our products, host tasting events and increase our ability to supply an increasing trade clientele.

To support this growth, we are looking for a Retail & Events Team Member to join us for 9 hours each Saturday (0930 to 1830), with additional hours available during the week and on an ad-hoc basis during our busy periods. There is the possibility for full-time work in the future if the successful candidate is interested.

The work we offer is varied and interesting. You will be assisting retail clients and members of our unique ‘wine club’ to find the perfect bottle for any occasion, helping our regular tasting events to run smoothly, arranging large orders for trade customers and performing light warehouse duties to keep our stock organised.

Required skills & experience:

• Retail / sales / hospitality experience is strongly preferred
• A passion for wine – you will receive full training in the products we supply, but we expect a basic understanding of varietals, production and the wine industry so you can make knowledgeable suggestions to our customers
• WSET qualifications aren’t a requirement but looked upon very favourably. We can offer these qualifications to levels 1&2 for exceptional candidates that don’t already hold them
• Strong communication skills – you will be working in a constantly changing environment where clear communication with both customers and team members is essential to our success
• Physically fit – you will be handling cases of wines, spirits and beers regularly
• Basic IT skills to operate our POS and invoicing systems
• Unfortunately, due to the nature of our business, we are only able to accept candidates aged 18+
