Health, Safety & Environmental Officer, Brough (West Hull), salary up to £42,000

Our client is a hugely successful company based in Hull with sister sites throughout the UK. This company is growing fast through new contract wins and acquisitions, so this is a fantastic time for a new employee to join. They are now looking for a HSE Officer to join their team at their site west of Hull.

Working as the Health, Safety and Environmental Officer you will work with the site operational team, providing guidance and support to staff enabling them to meet their health, safety, environmental and fire responsibilities, ultimately ensuring site compliance with statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations. You will also provide support to remote sites associated with the group; therefore, some travel and overnight stays will be required on occasions.

Working as the HSE Officer you will provide advice, coaching and training to allocated operations as well as assessing risk and proposed workable solutions enabling the site culture to imbed Health, Safety and Environment at the forefront of all operational activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities of the HSE Officer

• Advising and guiding management on new and existing health safety and environmental (HS&E) developments
• Co-ordinating, conducting and supporting management with all accident investigations, incident and near miss investigations
• Supporting the creation of safe systems of work
• Completing, maintaining and reviewing all risk assessments and safe systems of work
• Recording, producing and reviewing statistics based on accidents, incidents and near misses
• Reporting all injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences to the HSE
• Regular auditing and recording the departmental safety inspections and audits
• Ensuring all safety checks are carried out
• Ensuring the company meets the conditions and schedules of the integrated pollution prevention and control permit
• Liaising with the Environmental agency and Health and Safety Executives
• Assessing health and safety training needs
• Management of Safety Representatives, Fire Marshals and First Aider
• Ensuring that company inductions are delivered to all new starters and contractors on site
• Working with site facilities team to manage contractors

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of the HSE Officer

• Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations, legislation and current best practice
• Must be familiar and capable of working within a high demand, ever changing environment
• Proven experience of analysing and diagnosing problems and implementing effective solutions
• Skills to prepare and deliver HS&E-related training sessions
• Driving licence – essential
• NEBOSH General certificate or equivalent Health and Safety qualification – essential
