Salary: £72,000 – £78,000 per year

An exciting new opening for a Business Development Manager (covering research and technology) with a successful multinational engineering company offering excellent career progression and job satisfaction.

The purpose of this role is to facilitate continued growth across the Industrial sector through the identification, mapping, and development focus upon the UK research, technology & innovation through the identification and conversion of opportunities within the universities, technology centres and linked associated start-up companies.

A key aspect of the work will be the involvement of all elements of the various regional, Industry and specialised support teams in the development of solutions. Success will come from the forming of teams to bring all relevant expertise from across the business to help formulate our proposal.

Duties and responsibilities:

Deliver revenue growth across a range of industry sectors.

Identify, resource, coordinate and monitor large potential opportunities, whether OEM or End user investments using MQS data and success reporting Proactively own, maintain and expand key customer / prospect relationships

Understand Research, Technology & Innovation Sectors technological and strategic roadmaps, needs and requirements

Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide measurable sales returns.

Identify those organisations that form part of a target segment or project that need sales activity and communicate to the RSM a background on the account, site(s) and strategic importance requiring that RSM to add that user to his teams area plan.

Drive new product developments based upon segment requirements.

Lead generation, pipeline management and reporting through the phases of opportunity identification, validation, qualification and closing

Essential skills, competencies, and experience:

Consultative / solution selling experience within Business Development roles

Experience of building and closing sales pipelines

Proven ability to identify and translate complex customer aspirations into realised outcomes

Good written communication skills e.g., concise proposal writing

Experience of working with and updating Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems

Adept at managing customers expectations in line with agreed project deliverables

An agile mind with a passion for transformation

Financially literate and numerate

Ability to engage with internal stakeholders, particularly sales engineers, to gain and credibly communicate an understanding of technology and engineering opportunities

Driving licence

Desirable skills, competencies, and experience:

Established network of clients and contacts

Knowledge of engineering, manufacturing techniques and change management challenges

A degree in Business/Engineering or equivalent working experience

Ability to innovatively identify and resolve issues using a strongly analytical approach

Experience of working in an industrial/development environment

Ability to challenge the status quo with a requisite level of emotional intelligence

Gravitas

Experience of working collaboratively across a large sales team or network.
