Ivy Recruitment is currently seeking an Assistant Caretaker /Health & Safety competent person to work for a registered charity across their properties which are residential care settings for people who have Huntingdon’s Disease and Neurological Disabilities.

The role:

* Assist, co-operate with and follow instructions of the Caretaker

* Carry out small building work, minor repairs and redecorating on or in the properties

* Liaise in a professional manner with members of the staff team and all external agencies

* Attend training courses

* Working closely with the maintenance team

* Maintain the garden to a high standard

* Carry out checks on electrical equipment as required

Health & Safety

* Ensure regulations and compliance are met and adhered to and equipment and environment is safe within the home. Monitor that all health and safety requirements are being met and attend training as required. Ensure all equipment used within the domestic and laundry departments is well maintained and in full working order

* Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the organisation, not intentionally or recklessly interfere with, or misuse, anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or welfare, in pursuance of any of the relevant statutory provisions Carry out specific/adhoc risk assessments as required

* Lead a Health and Safety group to effectively communicate Health & Safety matters Inform staff of any Health and Safety issues

* Liaise with staff to ensure Health & Safety issues identified are resolved. Support external audits by staff and follow up action points

* Ensure Health & Safety duty holders are carrying out their roles effectively

* Produce a Health Safety report to the Home Managers on a regular basis

* Promote a positive Health & Safety culture across the Society

Hours of work:

8 hours per day Monday to Friday as Caretaker with an additional 2 hours per week to be worked on a day we can agree together for health and safety administration and checks.

(42 hours per week in total). Occasional out of hours on emergency on call may be necessary so candidate would ideally live within 5 – 10 mile radius max.

Person spec:

The successful candidate will be required to attend IOSHH training paid for by the company and also, if possible attend a training session to qualify them for conducting in house fire training for staff.

The successful candidate should be competent in all round manual skills – preferably with previous Caretaker background.

Sound IT knowledge is also required with regard to emailing internal and external parties, sourcing equipment and sundries online and maintaining financial, health & safety, legionella etc records as appropriate.
